Kalo Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Kalo is a product by ABABOK and is operated by ABAB Labs. This Privacy Policy explains what information Kalo collects, how that information is used, how it may be shared, and the choices available to users.

Kalo helps users log meals, estimate calories, review daily intake, and view movement-related calorie burn. Because these features may involve account data, meal records, food photos, AI processing, and Apple Health data, this policy is intended to describe those practices clearly.

2. Information We Collect

The information Kalo collects depends on how you use the app and which permissions you choose to grant.

• Account information, such as email address, authentication identifiers, and sign-in provider information for email/password, Apple Sign In, Google Sign In, or similar authentication methods.
• Food and nutrition data, such as meal names, calorie estimates, portions, meal history, timestamps, notes, and edits you make to recognized foods or calorie values.
• Photos and camera data, such as meal photos you take in the app, photos you choose from your photo library, exported meal images, and image-derived content used for meal recognition.
• Health and fitness data, such as Apple Health Active Energy or active calories, only after you grant permission.
• Profile or preference data, such as basic profile details, app settings, goals, or preferences used to personalize the app or improve calorie estimates, if you choose to provide them.
• Device and app information, such as app version, device type, operating system version, basic diagnostics, error logs, timestamps, and security-related technical information.

3. How We Use Information

ABAB Labs uses information collected through Kalo to operate and improve the app.

• Provide meal logging, calorie estimation, history, and related app features.
• Analyze food photos using backend services and AI processing providers.
• Sync, store, and retrieve user records when you are signed in.
• Display movement burn or active calorie information from Apple Health when you grant permission.
• Improve app reliability, safety, performance, and user experience.
• Respond to support requests and troubleshoot issues.
• Protect the app, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.

4. AI Food Recognition

Kalo may process photos or image-derived content through ABAB Labs backend services and AI providers, such as OpenAI or similar services, to identify foods and estimate calories.

AI food recognition and calorie estimates may be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for your specific needs. You should review and edit recognized food names, portions, and calorie estimates before relying on them.

Kalo is not a medical device and does not provide medical, nutrition, diagnosis, treatment, or professional health advice.

5. Apple Health Data

Kalo accesses Apple Health data only after you grant permission through Apple Health or iOS Settings. Kalo may read Active Energy or active calories to show movement burn in the app.

Kalo does not use Apple Health data for advertising, marketing, data mining, data selling, or cross-app tracking. ABAB Labs does not sell Apple Health data to third parties.

You can change or revoke Health permissions at any time in Apple Health or iOS Settings.

6. Photos and Camera

Kalo may request camera permission so you can capture meal photos for food recognition. Kalo may request photo library permission so you can choose images for recognition or save exported meal images.

You control camera and photo library permissions in iOS Settings. If you deny or revoke these permissions, some photo-related features may not work.

7. Sharing and Third-Party Services

ABAB Labs may use service providers to operate Kalo. These providers process information only as needed to provide, secure, or support app functionality.

• Supabase may be used for authentication, database, storage, backend, or related infrastructure services.
• OpenAI or similar AI processing providers may be used for food recognition and calorie estimation from photos or image-derived content.
• Apple Health and Apple services may be used when you grant permission or use Apple platform features.
• Authentication providers, such as Apple or Google, may process information when you choose those sign-in methods.
• ABAB Labs may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer involving Kalo.

8. Data Retention

ABAB Labs retains information for as long as needed to provide Kalo, maintain user records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect the service, or for other legitimate operational purposes.

You may request deletion of your account or personal data by contacting ABAB Labs at supportabb@abblabs.com. Some local data may remain on your device until you delete the app or manually clear it.

9. User Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information. You can contact ABAB Labs at supportabb@abblabs.com to make a request.

You can sign out of Kalo, revoke camera, photo, or Health permissions in iOS Settings, and request account deletion by contacting supportabb@abblabs.com.

10. Children's Privacy

Kalo is not intended for children under 13. ABAB Labs does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate consent.

If ABAB Labs learns that it has collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, ABAB Labs will take reasonable steps to delete that information.

11. Security

ABAB Labs uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information processed by Kalo. However, no app, network, storage system, or transmission method is 100% secure.

12. International Processing

Information may be processed in countries where ABAB Labs, its infrastructure providers, or other service providers operate. These countries may have privacy laws different from those in your location.

13. Changes to This Policy

ABAB Labs may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If the policy changes, ABAB Labs will update the Effective Date above. Continued use of Kalo after an update means the updated policy applies to your use of the app.
